All territory of Korgalzhyn reserve is a great place for ornithologists; however the Malyi Tengiz Lake is particularly remarkable that on its banks you may oversee the unusual bird – Pink Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber), which nests here from May to October. Korgalzhyn reserve is the home for very northern population of flamingo, but, locating on the cross of migration routes of birds, these lakes become also a place of bird collection. More than 300 types of birds live here, the most interesting of which are the Dalmatian pelican, sociable plover, white-headed duck and many others. This diversity was the reason that a few years ago the protected lakes were included into the list of key ornithological territories of the world (IBA).
